photo album - hospital waste on the dumpsite

These dumpsites are more or less organised municipal dumpsites, but also spontaneous sites just outside the hospital, or at remote places.

Hospital waste is dumped on the beach. The hospital is located at the left. Waste pickers, wind, rain, birds, rats, mice and insects have free game here. The beach is no longer usefull for tourism.

Staff of the pilot hospital in Maracaibo, Venezuela, on a visit to the dumpsite, where “their” waste arrive. They were deeply impressed by how waste pickers and Sanitary Service workers come in direct contact with contagious and toxic waste from their institution.

On this municipal dumpsite (red) bags with hospital waste has been dumped just now. A bulldozer covers them with other waste. The dumpsite is sited on the slope of a mountain. With rainwater toxic components from the waste are pouring down the slope, in the direction of the residential area at the foot of the slope.
After heavy rains waste can also come down in avalanches.
